Mike Blankenship elected Chapter Governor of The Recording Academy
Sticky Thing Music is proud to share that co-founder Mike Blankenship has been elected as a Governor of the San Francisco Chapter of The Recording Academy — the organization best known for producing the GRAMMY Awards and advocating for the rights of music creators nationwide.
Mike’s appointment marks a full-circle moment in a career that’s spanned the stage, the studio, and the classroom. From touring musician and session player to composer, producer, and nonprofit arts leader, Mike has long used music as a platform for storytelling, education, and equity.
“From side man to songwriter, orchestral arranger to nonprofit founder — this journey led me here,” Mike wrote in his announcement. “I’m honored to represent the community that’s shaped my path.”
As a Chapter Governor, Mike will help steer local efforts around industry advocacy, education, and community engagement — championing causes like equitable access to arts education and fair wages for working musicians. His election places him alongside fellow creatives committed to making the music industry more inclusive, transparent, and sustainable.
The Recording Academy’s work goes far beyond the GRAMMYs. Through year-round initiatives in policy, education, and career development, the Academy supports the people who power the music industry — and Mike is now one of the leaders helping drive that mission forward in the Bay Area.
