Sticky Thing advocates for human creativity at Music Advocacy Day
This spring, Mike Blankenship of Sticky Thing Music joined fellow Recording Academy members in Washington, D.C. for Music Advocacy Day 2024 — a nationwide initiative pushing for stronger protections for music creators in the age of artificial intelligence. Hosted by the Recording Academy, the event gathered artists, songwriters, producers, and advocates to meet directly with lawmakers and urge support for legislation that safeguards creative rights and promotes a sustainable future for music professionals.
Mike met with the office of Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, along with Senior Outreach Coordinator Kaylee DeLand, to discuss key bills designed to protect musicians from AI exploitation and ensure fair treatment in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
“As a #MusicAdvocate, I’m proud to stand with creators across the country and fight for originality,” said Mike. “Technology is moving fast — but the value of human-made music shouldn’t get lost in the process.”
Music Advocacy Day reflects a shared commitment across the industry to keep artistic integrity at the center of policy. For Sticky Thing — where every note is handcrafted — this work is deeply personal.
We’re grateful to the Recording Academy for organizing the event and to fellow Bay Area chapter members Joi Rhone and YSB Baby for representing with us on the Hill. Stand with music, and check out the Recording Academy’s advocacy page to learn how you can take action.
